Julio Goldenberg, MD passed away on January 17, 2009, at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Carlota (Loty) N. Goldenberg, sons Claude and Alex Goldenberg, daughter Diane Goldenberg-Hart, and grandchildren Annie, Emily, Zoe, and Aidan. He is greatly missed by his family and by devoted friends around the world. This site has been created in recognition of the one-year anniversary of his passing.Julio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 5, 1927. He graduated from medical school at the University of Buenos Aires in December 1952. In 1957, he relocated from his homeland with his wife and son, Loty and Claude, to New York City for a medical internship. Deciding to stay in the United States and raise their family here, the Goldenbergs eventually found their way to Memphis, Tennessee, where Julio became affiliated with the University of Tennessee medical community and teaching medical school. In Memphis, Alex was born, and then Diane came along 6 years later. During the 1970's, the Goldenbergs moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Julio had secured a position at The University of Texas Health Science Center as a teacher at the medical school. In addition, he practiced medicine at the Robert B. Green County Hospital until he retired from the medical school in 1986. Julio preferred to treat individuals who could not afford private health care so he resisted creating a private practice while in San Antonio. Following his retirement, Julio and Loty moved to Dallas where Julio owned a private practice for a brief period of time until he became ill and retired from medicine.A remarkably caring physician, Julio had a passion for life. His friendships were profound and long lasting. He loved theater, film, music and literature. While he devoted his medical career to helping those in need, he dedicated his life to his family, encouraging his children to notice the world around them with sensitivity and compassion, and to make a difference in it. This is his legacy.
