Obituary

On February 28th, we lost our beloved wife, mother, and friend, Kathy Perlman. She passed away peacefully at the age of 72 at Medstar Montgomery Medical center in the company of her husband, Phil Perlman, her son, Mark Perlman, and her daughter-in-law, Amy Merritt.

Kathy was born June 30, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio. She earned BSN and MSN degrees at The Ohio State University and was a lifelong Buckeye football fan. She set a standard for colleagues in her nursing career and was a highly regarded nursing instructor at Texas Women's University and the University of Maryland.

Kathy loved to be active—her vibrance and athleticism were apparent throughout her life, whether she was on the court for tennis, pickleball, or bocce, or landing a hole in one on the 17th hole of the Manor Country Club golf course. She saw the world with her husband of 44 years, from spending a year living in France to cruising the Mediterranean this past November and many other travels in between. Her adventurous spirit was evident to everyone who spent time with her, and she always brightened a room with her eloquence and sense of humor. She was an incredible wife and mother, giving all the love and care for which her husband and sons could ever ask. Kathy maintained a particularly special bond with her youngest son, Jeremy, born with special needs, through steadfast care for his unique challenges.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Philip Perlman, her two sons, Mark and Jeremy Perlman, her sister Elizabeth Retholtz, brother-in-law Joel Retholtz, sister- and brother-in-law, Maxine and Ronald Sherwin, nieces and nephews and the many friends she made everywhere she went. She will forever be in their hearts and through them will continue to shine as brightly as she did in life.

Kathy will be laid to rest on Friday, March 7th, 2025 at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney. A memorial service will be held at 1pm at the cemetery chapel. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Support Services, 9075 Comprint Court, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
