Leon Prosky of Rockville, MD, son of Meyer and Beckie Prosky, died of natural causes on April 23rd 2020 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of 47 years to Heather D. Prosky, and father to Melissa Prosky (Benjamin Nidus), and Rebecca Prosky. Cherished brother to Evelyn Kaplan (late), David Prosky (late), Philip Prosky (late), Abraham Prosky, and Eileen Shostack. Adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. A native New Yorker, Leon was a proud graduate of Brooklyn College (B.S., Chemistry, 1954) and Rutgers University (M.S., 1955; Ph.D., Physiology and Biochemistry, 1958). He served as 1st Lieutenant at the Army Medical Research Laboratory at Denver's Fitzsimons Army Hospital, two years as a postdoctoral candidate at Washington University in St. Louis, and three years as a research associate at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. These experiences had a profound impact on his professional and personal outlooks. Dr. Prosky spent the majority of his career at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, where he retired after three decades of lauded service. Leon loved his family, his work, traveling, good food, storytelling, and had a zest for life that all who knew him will remember fondly. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
