Obituary

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Libby McSpadden, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away with her husband by her side. She was the beloved wife of Tom McSpadden, devoted mother of Gail and son-in-law Joe Greenman, Ellen McSpadden, and Neal and daughter-in-law Jeyme McSpadden, loving sister of Brian Glenn, cherished bubbe of Gabrielle and Ava Greenman and Sophie and Emma McSpadden.

Libby was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 8, 1947, to Abe and Helen Weintraub. She grew up along side both her grandmothers, many aunts, uncles, and cousins before moving to Brentwood, NY when she was 8. After graduating from Brentwood High School, she chose to study at George Washington University where she earned her bachelor's and met her husband of nearly 55 years. She was a sociologist when she started her career after graduating from GW. She made the decision to work inside the home when she and Tom welcomed their children. Libby found her second career that became her passion and returned for her master's degree in elementary-secondary special education. It was in the classroom that her talent lit up like stars in the sky. She loved working with children who were learning to cope with emotional and behavioral issues. She had a true knack for being able to connect with them. She also loved her work family, many of whom became lifelong friends.

After her retirement she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting, lunching with friends, and most of all visiting her grandchildren who she always described as delicious.

She is preceded in death by her parents Abe and Helen Weintraub.
