Obituary

Our beloved mother, Lilliane Charlotte Adler/Litton, born in Cologne, Germany to parents Ernest & Marguerite Adler, passed away on March 21st, 2022 at her home.  Her young life was forever changed in 1939, when Hitler and Nazism emerged, and the Adler family was forced to flee Germany while their son, Kurt, Lilliane's, brother was attending Oxford University in the UK.  Tragically, while trying to reach his family in the US, Kurt's ship was torpedoed by the Nazis during the Atlantic crossing and Lilliane's beloved brother perished.  After a long and harrowing odyssey, Lilliane and her parents arrived in New York City in 1941 and began a wondrous new beginning to their lives, settling in NYC and Chappaqua, NY.  There, her three children, Karina, Niki, and Ron Lion were born.  Following several years in New York, Lilliane and family moved to Washington, DC, where Lilliane began a new, entrepreneurial chapter in her life during which she launched a silk flower business catering to embassies.  With her natural ability in creative visualization, Lilliane also became a renowned art dealer befriending many artists and collectors globally.  As part of her dedication to the arts, Lilliane loved classical music, opera, and the theater. Gregarious and amiable, Lilliane was blessed with many friendships as she gleaned the magic and goodness in all people.  Her warm demeanor was infectious and she loved to cook and entertain her friends often, always greeting them with a smile and one of her special witticisms.  Lilliane had a big heart and generous spirit participating in many non-profits including the Holocaust Museum of which she was a founding member.  She is survived by her three children, grand-children Marc & Meike Brunner, Alex & Jade Brunner, Rio & Lolita Lion, and Satish & Jamie Lion and her eight great-grand children, Zoe & Indy Brunner, Luca & Mateo Brunner, Luke, Bodhi & Willow Lion, and London Lion. Services will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Capital Caring at ( capitalcaring.org ) or Washington Hebrew Congregation at ( whctemple.org/give ).
