On Monday, October 26, 2026, Lori Sue Nelson, of Potomac, Maryland, beloved wife of Thomas Pogue; Devoted mother of Zachary Pogue; Loving sister of Glenn Nelson; Caring daughter to her parents Seymour Nelson and Elaine Hoover of blessed memory; passed away from lymphoma.

Lori was born in Queens, NY, and grew up in Elmont, Long Island. She started college at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut and then transferred to and graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park with a degree in Sociology and Family Studies. Throughout her career she worked for various local consulting firms, progressing to the level of Events and Logistics Director and leading many large professional meeting contracts with various NIH institutes.

Lori lived in Potomac. Dedicated to her husband and her son she was a wonderful wife and mother. She and Tom were married for 42 years. As an extremely warm person, she loved people and was an exceptionally talented conversationalist. She had an uncanny ability to remember details of people’s lives that made for an instant connection when they would see her, sometimes years later. Her relationships with her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends ran deep.

As someone who genuinely loved people, she also had a strong interest in politics and in working for candidates that stood for a better world. She was kindhearted and wanted the best for those around her.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2:30 pm, at Judean Memorial Gardens, 16225 Bachellors Forest Road, Olney, MD.
