IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louis J
Rubin
March 14, 1913 – March 7, 2020
Louis J. Rubin passed away peacefully on Friday March 6, 2020 at his home in North Bethesda. He was nearly 107 years old. He is survived by his loving wife Zenaida Bellas-Rubin, daughter Sarah Rubin (Jim Blose), and grandsons Noah Rubin-Blose and Daniel Blose.
Lou was born March 14, 1913 in Brooklyn, the third child of Sam and Sarah Dingott Rubin. He excelled in school, graduating high school at age 15 and earning a BA degree from City College by age 19. During the Depression, Lou worked for the federal government and attended Catholic University law school at night. He served in World War II, stationed in Hawaii, Nebraska, and on a ship in the Pacific. After the War he joined the Air Force Reserves and rose to Lieutenant Colonel before retiring from the military. He worked for the federal government for more than 35 years, first at the Social Security Administration and then as one of the first administrative law judges at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
He married Frieda Bogin Rubin in 1948 and they had a happy, loving life together until her death in 1991. In 2005 Lou married Zenaida ("Zeny") Bellas-Rubin. They traveled many times to the Philippines to visit Zeny's family who lovingly welcomed Lou as a brother and uncle. The marriage gave him a new lease on life and kept him happy and healthy in his old age.
Lou was devoted to his family and his work. He was close with his siblings and was a loving father and grandfather. He was outgoing and optimistic, with a wonderful sense of humor. He always appreciated his good fortune -- a good career, good health throughout his long life, and two happy marriages.
