IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcia Tobi
Zabronsky
October 14, 1935 – April 17, 2023
On Monday, April 17, 2023, Marcia Zabronsky, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister passed away in Silver Spring, MD. She is survived by her brother Martin Rosansky (Diana), her children Jerry Zabronsky (Anne), Dan Zabronsky (Robbin Marks) and her grandchildren, Liz, Kat, Hope, Eve, and Sam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Zabronsky. Born in 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, Marcia graduated from the High School of Music and Art and received her BA degree in Early Childhood Education from Brooklyn College.
For the first twenty years of her career, Marcia taught kindergarten and first grade in public schools in New York City and Arlington Virginia where she instilled her love of reading, writing, storytelling and music with her students. Moving to Silver Spring MD in 1973, where she lived for fifty years, Marcia shifted from early childhood education to geriatrics, serving as a recreational therapist at a nursing home in Silver Spring where she worked for twenty-five years.
Marcia was an accomplished pianist, singer, writer, painter, knitter and cook. She was an avid reader, completing several books a week, with a particular interest in literature, poetry, classical music and science fiction. She read the newspaper from cover to cover every day, completing the paper's daily crossword puzzle in the process. She loved listening to and playing classical music on the piano as well as singing many of the popular songs written between 1920-1960 and had a near encyclopedic memory of the vast array of popular songs and show tunes written during that era. Most of all, Marcia loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and nephews, often regaling them with jokes, poetry recitations, and stories from her life.
A private interment will take place. A Celebration of Life to honor Marcia's extraordinary life will take place in the D.C. metro area sometime later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the D.C. classical public radio station, WETA Classical.
