Martin Rush, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023, at the age of 87.   Marty was born in New York City on June 20, 1935, to Samuel and Esther Rush (née Schwartz).  He has a younger brother Steven.  Marty grew up in the Bronx, and attended City College, where he studied electrical engineering.  Upon graduating, Marty took a job in the Boston area at Lincoln Labs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he also continued his education earning a master's degree in aerospace engineering.

While residing in the Boston, Marty met Barbara Holzman from Baltimore - a student at Tufts University.  Marrying in 1959, they subsequently moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where Marty began a long rewarding career at IBM, and where they raised a family that included three children Larry, Allen and Paula – born in 1960, 1963, and 1965.  Marty's career spanned diverse areas of engineering such as space flight navigation, computer networking, and information technology.

Marty was a loving husband and father who together with Barbara took great joy in being with family, taking time to be part of their children's activities, education, and encouraging them with their various interests.  Marty also enjoyed devoting time to being a suburban home owner tackling many home projects.

Marty, together with Barbara, took great pride in seeing their children graduate from college, begin their careers, and subsequently get married and raising their own children.  But very sadly, Marty and family lost Barbara who passed away in 1998 after a multiyear battle with leukemia.

Following the passing of Barbara, Martin met Sandra Pincus, who also lost her spouse to cancer.  Marty and Sandy were married in 2001, and were soon enjoying life as retirees with plenty of time for traveling, attending lectures and concerts, and most importantly being grandparents to a total of 13 grandchildren.  One of their greatest joys was gathering their extended families together during holidays. Through most of these years, Marty and Sandy lived Bethesda, with more recent years being in Rockville, Maryland

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, 10 a.m. at Judean Chapel, 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, Maryland 20832 with interment to follow at Judean Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anti-Defamation League or the Dementia Society of America .
