Obituary

Matilda Tiby Plave of Silver Spring, Maryland and West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on March 11, 2016 after complications from surgery. She was the dedicated and beloved wife of Seymour Plave; mother of Lee Plave (Ilene) and Mitch Plave (Brad); and grandmother of Aaron, Jennifer, Joshua, Leah, and Stephanie Plave. She was also the loving and dedicated sibling of Al, Sam, and Sid Steinberg and daughter of Max and Sophie Steinberg, all of whom predeceased her. Matilda was a leader. She was the first woman to serve as president of Temple Avodah, in Oceanside, New York and served the congregation in many other leadership and fundraising capacities from 1965 to 2000. She had been active in the Clearview Community Council in Queens, New York from 1958 to 1964. Matilda had a smile that could light up any room and she had a lively sense of humor. She overcame many obstacles in life and was dedicated to her family. Matilda was a woman of valor and her memory will be an inspiration and joy for her family and all those who had the luck of meeting her. Funeral services will take place at 1 pm on Sunday, March 13, at the King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matilda's honor to Temple Avodah, 3050 Oceanside Road in Oceanside, New York 11572.
