IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maxine Anne
Finkelstein
September 19, 1940 – December 15, 2024
On Sunday, December 15 2024, Maxine Anne Finkelstein of Bethesda, MD, beloved wife of the late Captain Milton Mordecai Finkelstein, devoted mother of Eric Allen Anderson (Jane), Valerie Singer (Paul), and Jeffrey Anderson (Kaiwen), loving sister to Rita Ashley, Shari Schreiber, the late Lenore Rabinowitz, and Kathi Nieto, and cherished grandmother of the late Justin Anderson, Jillian Singer, and Suzanne Singer.
Maxine was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1940, she spent much of her childhood in the Cleveland Public Library. She was a passionate lifelong learner, driven by an insatiable curiosity and a profound love for knowledge, particularly in the fields of science and technology. Her intellectual pursuits were matched only by her unwavering commitment to giving back to those in need, embodying the spirit of community, compassion, and generosity.
A staunch feminist, Maxine dedicated herself to standing up for women's rights and advocating for equality. Her tenacity and strength allowed her to overcome numerous obstacles throughout her life, inspiring those around her to persevere—and to succeed—in the face of challenges. She was always available to her family and friends, offering support, encouragement, and love whenever it was needed.
Maxine had a deep appreciation for the arts and literature. Her lifelong love for books, and the speed by which she devoured them, opened new worlds to her from a very young age. She enjoyed taking family trips, which provided her with an opportunity to create and share memories with those closest to her. She maintained a strong spiritual connection, instilling values and teaching family rituals that will be cherished by future generations.
As we remember her, we celebrate a life filled with passion, purpose, and impact. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
