Michael Platt on August 13, 2016. A native of Brooklyn, NY-a fact of which he was inordinately proud-Michael moved to Washington DC to attend law school after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received his Juris Doctor (with Honors) from The George Washington University Law Center and began his legal career as a trial lawyer with the Department of Justice. Specializing in patent, trademark and copyright law, most of his professional life was spent in private practice-first as a founding member of the firm of Berman, Aisenberg & Platt, then as a partner at Dickinson Wright, and finally as a partner at Patton Boggs, LLP. He ended his career at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, retiring in 2003. Although he loved the practice of law, Michael's true passion was theater. He appeared in, or directed, more than 30 productions with local theater companies including Cedar Lane Stage, St. Mark's Players, Silver Spring Stage, Little Theater of Alexandria, Rockville Little Theater and Arlington Players. He is survived by his wife Judith, his son Eric Platt (Linda), his stepson Eric Krauss (Sherri) and his stepdaughter Elizabeth Krauss (Jonathan Isaacs), 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. A daughter, Diana Platt Frenkel, predeceased him.
Services will be today at 12:00pm at Kol Shalom, Rockville Maryland with interment to follow at Judean Gardens, Olney Maryland. Family will be sitting Shiva Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Judith Platt in Silver Spring, MD. Donations can be made to American Jewish World Service.
