On February 9, 2017, Dr. Falk, 70, an internist in Washington, DC for over 40 years, passed away at Sibley Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her children. The cause was plasma cell leukemia. A native of Queens, NY, Dr. Falk attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, before coming to Washington, DC to start her medical career. She was recognized in the medical community as an ardent advocate for patients' rights. She retired at the end of 2015. She was married to Dennis Falk, who predeceased her in 1998, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Martin Zerwitz and their two children; and her son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Cassidy Falk. The funeral will be a gravesite service for family and close friends on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The family will be sitting shiva in Chevy Chase, Maryland on Sunday, February 12 and Monday, February 13 from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the following organizations: Planned Parenthood, Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Greyhound Pets of America.
