Nestor Ratesh (1933-2024) passed away on October 31, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Moinesti, Romania and worked for the Romanian press agency AGERPRES. In 1973, Nestor emigrated with his family to the United States, sponsored by Martin and Connie Kamerow, and settled in the Washington Metropolitan area. Hired by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Nestor worked here with distinction until retirement, first as reporter, then as Director of the Romanian Service. Nestor Ratesh is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ioana "Hansi", daughter Gabriela Miller, granddaughter Becky Miller, grandson Ethan (Rachel) Miller and great-granddaughter Gemma. The funeral will be held Monday, November 4 at 1 p.m. at Tikvat Israel Congregation - Rockville, MD. Burial to follow at Parklawn Cemetery - Rockville, MD. The family will be sitting shiva at the Miler Residence following burial on Monday with minyan at 7:30 pm. Shiva will resume Tuesday and Wednesday, with minyan at 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
