Obituary

Norma Greene passed away on January 8, 2024, at the tender age of 98, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Kurt Greene; loving mother of Matt (Beth), Andy (Mary), Ted (Millie). Adored; grandmother of David (Ali), Lindsay (Chris), Megan (Nick), Timmy, Michael, Joanna (John), Grant (Veronika) and Ryan. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Hannah and brother Jack.

She was the middle child of Russian Jewish immigrants growing up in a working-class neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.

She met the love of her life, Kurt, on a lake in upstate New York on her last day at summer camp. They were married in 1950 and remained so until his death in 2016. Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She cherished time with her family and was the matriarch who was loved and respected.

Her dream was to go to college and study art however, her family didn't have the means for her to do so. After graduating high school, she entered the work force and as luck would have it she got a job with the New York Daily News in the Art Department which launched her career as an artist.   After her move to Maryland, she started working for Vitro Labs, as an Illustrator until her retirement.

She had a lifelong passion for art and introduced her sons to the amazing world of the arts, and the family spent many afternoons in galleries and museums in New York and Washington DC.  After her retirement, she was able to take time for herself and pursue her love of painting. She was fortunate to have some of her artwork displayed in local galleries.   She found joy in gifting her work to family and friends.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held on Friday, January 26th at 1:00pm at Judean Gardens 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney MD
