Obituary

Dr. Norman Harry Isaacson passed away on February 4, 2021 in Boca Raton, FL.

Dr. Isaacson was born in New York City on April 9, 1922 and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from New York University in 1944.  After starting a surgical residency in 1944 he joined the Army as a medical officer and served during and after World War II, retiring as a Captain.

In 1947 he resumed his surgical residency at George Washington University under the direction of Dr. Brian Blades.  He retired 47 years later as Professor Emeritus in Surgery.  He continued to teach at the university and abroad until he was in his 80s.  He was cited for excellence in teaching in 1978. He is the author of over 19 articles in surgical literature (some of them ground breaking at the time) and wrote portions of surgical textbooks.

Dr. Isaacson was President of The Jacobi Medical Society (1966), The Washington Academy on Surgery (1983) and the Washington Chapter of The American College of Surgeons (1985).  He was also an Examiner for the American Board of Surgery.  He was a member of many other prestigious medical and scientific organizations.

Dr. Isaacson was pre-deceased by his wife of 55 years, Estelle and his son Paul.  He leaves his loving companion of 18 years, Eunice Rubel, his sons Dale (Debbie) and Lee (Beth), eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Windell Malcolm for his many years of devotion and care of Norman.
