LEVIN - NORMAN LEWIS, Dr., of Bethesda, Maryland, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, Becket, Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida, passed away on May 18, 2012 at the age of 88 after a long illness. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Joseph and Fanny Levin. He is survived by his beloved and cherished wife of 63 years, Shirley (Bubbles) Ginsberg Levin who selflessly cared for him, his sister, Thelma J. Levin, and his adoring children, Faye Levin and her husband Harvey, of Bethesda, Maryland, and Alan Levin and his wife Linda, of West Hartford, Connecticut. He was the beloved grandfather to Lexi, Emma, Dana and Adam, and step-grandfather to Robin (Evan) Hammerman and Beth (Brian) Dubin, and great grandpa to their beautiful children. A distinguished Professor of Biology at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York for almost 40 years, he graduated from the University of Connecticut and received a PhD from the University of Illinois. He was a proud veteran of the US Army. A devoted family man whose greatest joy was spending time and sharing with those he loved, a revered scientist and teacher, a lover of the arts and an avid volunteer at the Mote Marine Lab and Tanglewood Music Festival, Norman will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation. Internment will follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, Clarksburg, Maryland. Shiva will be observed at the home of Faye and Harvey Levin, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23.
