Obituary

On November 20, 2014 Paul Brave Abrams of Chevy Chase, Maryland passed away after a brief Illness. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years Natalie, three children Michael (Sandra), Lawrence (Charo) and Jennifer; grandchildren Stephanie, Alexander, Jeremy, Nathaniel, Ethan and Elliot and sister Ilene. Paul was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1935 and lived in the Washington, D.C. area for the last 50 years. A real estate developer by trade, he earned degrees from The Johns Hopkins University (B.A. 56') and the University of Maryland (LLB 60'). He served on the Advisory Board of the School of Advanced International Studies, the Board of Trustees of The Johns Hopkins University, the Washington Opera, and International Arts & Artists. In 1965 Paul relocated to the Washington DC area to work for the Floyd E. Davis Company, in the early 1970's he started his own real estate investment firm and in 1983 formed Abrams and Associates with his son Michael. The firm was responsible for developing over one million square feet of space including the award winning One Bethesda Center and Chevy Chase Plaza. He was also instrumental in launching a food and catering business with son Lawrence that continues today as RSVP Catering. Paul and Natalie shared a passion for parenting, grand-parenting, food, travel and art. In 1980, they took a sabbatical in London and enjoyed a second home for over 20 years in St. Jean Cap Ferrat, France. Paul was a talented writer and photographer, publishing three books The Sport of Cooking, A Gourmet Guide for Rookies (Capital Press, 2000), Wanderlust (2009) and Observations (2013). He will be remembered as a Renaissance man, Francophile and riotously funny but most of all, for his kindness, humor and generous spirit. He will be missed by many, especially his family that love him dearly. Following a private internment on November 23, the family will receive visitors at their home in Chevy Chase on Sunday at 6:00pm and Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
