PAUL DAVID LEBER (87) of Bethesda, MD, passed away on August 26, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Paul is survived by his loving daughters, Jessica Leber Enig (Eric Enig) and Susan Leber, his cherished granddaughters, Emma and Annabelle Enig, and his younger brother, Martin Leber. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Dee Estess Leber.
Dr. Paul Leber was born in Brooklyn, NY to Frances and Isidore Leber on April 12, 1937. He attended Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY and graduated with honors from both Hamilton College and the New York University School of Medicine.
Paul had a long and illustrious career in medicine, working as a clinician, an academic researcher, a professor, a director and a consultant. He trained in both internal medicine and pathology before ultimately settling on a career in psychiatry. He served as the Division Director of Neuropharmacology at the Food and Drug Administration for almost two decades, where he received numerous awards and honors. After retiring from the FDA in 1998, Paul went on to work as a private consultant. He was a prolific and talented writer who authored and co-authored over 50 journal articles, publications and book chapters throughout his career. He served on numerous advisory and editorial boards.
Paul had a great many hobbies and interests, including model railroading, aviation, math and history. He loved the pursuit of knowledge and was truly a lifelong student. He was a devoted Zionist and supporter of the Jewish people. Above all else, he was the most honest, devoted and loyal of men.
A private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024
