Obituary

Paul S. Lederer Paul S. Lederer of Columbia, MD. beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather-to-be, died peacefully on October 15, 2015 at age 90 of advanced Alzheimer's disease. Born in Pottenstein, Austria to Jewish parents, the family fled Nazi terror, including the murder of several close relatives, in 1939 when Paul was 14, and settled in New York, NY. After serving in the Army in Europe during World War II and obtaining his electrical engineering degree from City College of NY, he worked for decades as an instrumentation engineer for what's now called the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He was mechanically brilliant and got a patent for a measuring device. He was the author of more than 150 articles - many about his passion, antique British firearms, on which he became a noted expert, and others about measurement instruments. He was a life member of the Potomac Arms Collectors Association and the Company of Military Historians. We fondly recall his writing prowess, his skilled photography, his droll sense of humor, and most of all, his deep caring for his friends and family. His wife of 52 years, Judy, died in 2002 at age 74 after years of health struggles through which Paul was her devoted caretaker. Paul is survived by his children, Jan, Karen, and Bob, his sons-in-law, Rich, Brian, and John, and his grandchildren, Rosa and April, and her partner, Finney. The funeral will be Sunday, October 18 at 10 a.m. at Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Chapel, 1170 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD, followed by burial at Judean Memorial Cemetery, Olney, MD. Donations can be made to the USC Shoah Foundation, sfi.usc.edu/support, or the charity of your choice . www.SagelBloomfield.com
