Obituary

Phyllis Munitz Mindel, beloved mother, passed away on February 13, 2022, at the age of 89. She was born in Washington, DC to Benjamin and Lillian Munitz. She was the youngest child and had two brothers: Sydney and Irving.

A native Washingtonian, she lived as a child in Southwest, Washington, D. C. Phyllis worked for several Doctors running their offices, before marrying her husband, Phillip Mindel and started a family with two boys: Allan and Harold.

After living in Glen Ross Apartments in Silver Spring for several years, they moved into a house in Potomac, Maryland in 1964 to raise the kids. She lived there until her death.

Phyllis was very involved in volunteering for the Hebrew Home of the Aged in Rockville, Maryland. She worked in the gift shop and also organized the monthly birthday parties for the residents.

Phyllis also loved animals and donated with many animal charities regularly over the years.

Phyllis was all about friends and family and always sent birthday cards, valentines, anniversary cards celebrating all occasions for so many years, even until her death.

Phyllis also was an avid Mah jongg player and loved playing in her weekly games. Phyllis was also a baker and would constantly bake cookies and cakes for families and friends and was known for her chocolate chip cookies and her kugel.

Phyllis fought a tough battle the last 7 years of her life against stage 4 colon cancer. She was strong and heroic. She just kept going, until she eventual wore out. Donations can be made J.S.S.A. Hospice @jssa.org and Cancer Cares @cancercare.org
