Rachelle (Rosenblum) Sparrow lived a life rich with family, travel and culture. She was born on December 4, 1929 in the Bronx, New York and was the oldest sibling of sister Gilda and twin brothers Myron and Jacob. Rachelle's childhood home was filled with music, literature, and art, pursuits that brought her pleasure throughout her life. To escape the heat of the city, the family spent relaxing summers in their bungalow at Rockaway Beach. After high school, Rachelle entered City College(1947-1950) in New York where she met future husband, Lawrence Sparrow. After they wed in 1951, the young couple moved to Long Island, NY where they hosted frequent family gatherings. Daughters Beth and Susan joined the family in New York. Daughter Lisa, was born during the four years the family lived in Indianapolis. After living a short time near Buffalo, New York, Rachelle and family moved to Maryland where they still live today. In the mid-1970s, Rachelle began a very satisfying career as a Library Assistant with the Montgomery County Public Library System. This allowed her to surround herself with books, a constant pleasure throughout her life. Her love of words extended to writing poetry as well as games such as Scrabble, Perquackey, and Boggle. As the years went on, Rachelle became grandmother to eight grandchildren - Brent, Blair, Kyle, Rachel, Amy, Jennifer, Dionna, and Domenico. She considered them one of the greatest joys of her life. After the death of her beloved husband, Rachelle helped to facilitate a grief support group for many years. Her adventurous spirit led her on a number of exciting trips during her 60's and 70's. These trips took her to Denmark, Greece, the Panama Canal, England, Hawaii, Russia, and South America. In her last decades, Rachelle found love again, first with Al Orlowek, and then with her current partner of five years, Martin Korenblatt. Rachelle was a true "people person". She drew others to her with her compassion, gentle spirit, wise advice, and zest for life. She brightened the world with her smile, and with her loving heart, she enriched the lives of everyone she met.
