Obituary

Sadly, Richard B. Glazer passed away on November 17, 2023 at the age of 89. He resided in Bethesda, Maryland. Richard was born on December 20, 1933 to Rose Marie Glazer and Lou Silverman, and later raised by his stepfather Edward Glazer.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University, and a Master's Degree from his beloved Penn State University, with post-graduate study at Cornell University.

Possessing a lifelong interest in science, education and nature, Richard's path took him to work, study and relish beauty in such places as Arizona, Woods Hole, and the northern Canadian wilderness, often with his camera in tow.

Growing up in Boston, MA he also lived in Tillson, New York and Chappaqua, NY, as well as Bethesda, MD and Naples, FL.

A lifelong teacher in and out of the classroom, he served in instructor, professorial and administrative capacities at SUNY New Paltz, Orange, Ulster and Westchester Colleges. Richard retired as Dean in the division of mathematics, physical engineering and computer science technologies in 1996 from SUNY Westchester. Post retirement, Richard continued to teach at SUNY Westchester as an adjunct professor for many years.

He also served as associate project director for "Project Biotech" with the American Institute of Biological Sciences, creating some of the earliest distance learning programs in science higher education.

From 1974 until 1980, he was Supervisor of the Town of Rosendale, in Ulster County, and remained extremely proud of his efforts to bring that town a police force, recreation center and first-ever sewer and water systems.

As a dedicated member of the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, his many years in fighting fires as well as serving the Rosendale Library and it's community were among his most cherished.

He served with many state and nationally chartered educational organizations, and as President of the SUNY Two Year College Council, helping lead New York's State University Chancellor's Articulation Task Force in Business Education. Richard received numerous awards and acknowledgements.

He is predeceased by his wife, Anne Peretsky, mother of Sue Ellen Russell and Joseph Glazer, as well as his second wife Patricia Garofalo, mother of Judith Strong and Diana Leigh Gallagher. He also lost sisters; H. Ellen Cowan and Linda King.
