Rita Renee
Capon
Oct 19, 1931 — Aug 11, 2026
Rita Renee Capon passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026. Born in New York City, Rita was the daughter of Harry Herman and Yetta Greenstein Herman. Her heritage was rooted in Ukraine, with her mother immigrating from Yavoriv, and her paternal grandparents from Yavoriv and Odessa.
Rita grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, facing the hardships and privations of the Great Depression. Resilient from an early age, she attended City College in New York City for two years before putting her education on hold to marry her husband, Albert Capon. She then joined him during his military deployment in Charleston, South Carolina, beginning their life together.
Rita dedicated most of her professional career to the World Bank, where she excelled as an executive assistant. Highly capable and intellectually sharp, her duties went far beyond administrative work; she conducted extensive research and meticulously prepared manuscripts for scholarly books in the specialized field of maritime law.
An avid explorer of both the world and the written word, Rita loved international travel and was a voracious reader, often finishing a book a day. Though she endured immeasurable heartbreak—most notably the tragic loss of her second son, Howard—Rita's enduring work ethic and determination never wavered. Her sacrifice and drive laid the foundation for the successful careers and lives of her children and grandchildren.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; her son, Howard Alan Capon; and her brother, Jerome “Jerry” Herman.
She leaves behind a rich legacy and is survived by her sons, Dr. Daniel Capon (Staci Adams) and Robert Capon (Rosemarie Newsom Capon); her four grandchildren, Howard Avi Capon (Stephanie Hon), Benjamin Capon (Maprang), Howard Joseph Capon (Natalie Beckman), and Miriam Francese (Jeremy Francese); and her great-grandchildren, Rollie Capon, Shara Capon, Josephine Francese, and Zoe Capon.
All services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
