Rita Trachtenberg, mother to Carolyn Wolfe and Adam Trachtenberg, passed away on February 2, 2025. Her final moments were spent peacefully, surrounded by family.

She was born in the Bronx, New York in 1932, daughter to Rubin and Fannie Smith and sister to Harold Smith. Rita graduated from Queens College in New York before meeting and marrying the love of her life, David, who passed away in 2024. The two were wed in 1955, after which Rita worked as a social worker, helping to support David as he attended medical school at New York University. From there, medical residencies, David's military service, and internships took the young couple to Durham, North Carolina, Fort Sumter, South Carolina, Baltimore, and finally Bethesda, Maryland, where they settled with their two young children.

Rita was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to supporting her husband and raising her two children. She was an avid tennis player, a talented artist, an accomplished cook, and a treasure to her many friends in the community. She had a rare eye for beauty -- in art, interior design, and fashion. She and David enjoyed traveling the world, collecting art and antiques along the way. She was always elegant and always beautiful, inside and out. She loved to read and enjoyed exchanging opinions with her book club friends. She looked forward to doing her New York Times crossword puzzle every day--often completing the challenging Saturday and Sunday editions.

She delighted in the company and accomplishments of her two grandsons, Matthew and Ross Edenbaum, their wives, Rachael and Gabrielle, and she absolutely doted on her great grandchildren--Eloise, Lily, and Emerson.

She will be dearly missed by all.

Graveside services will be held at King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA, on February 4, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
