Rose Goldstein, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2022, at age 98. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 21, 1923, she was the daughter of Charles and Sophie Mandel. On July 4th, 1944, she married Lawrence Goldstein while he was on leave from the military and they subsequently made their home in Queens, NY. Married for 30 years and having raised a family, the couple divorced. But, in a story worthy of a Hallmark movie, they re-united 28 years later and continued together until the time of her death.

Rose was fiercely independent. She began college late in life and earned her degree in computer studies from Adelphi University at age 61. Single and armed with a new college diploma, Rose relocated from New York to Mountain View, CA in 1984 where she worked for HP. In 2002, in the course of multiple family visits to New York, her relationship with Larry was sparked anew and he joined her in California. The couple resided there until 2009 when they moved to Asheville, NC. In 2016, Rose and Larry relocated once more, this time to Silver Spring to be closer to family.

Rose loved to travel and wandered the globe with Elder Hostel. She will be remembered for her strong will, her intrepid nature, and her abiding love and devotion for her family.

Rose is survived by Larry, her two children, Richard (Deborah Koss) of Rockville, MD, and Andrew (Hilary Sigmon) of Chevy Chase, MD, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul and Elliot Mandel.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 25th, 12PM at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 15300 Comus Rd, Clarksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org/give ).
