IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra
Dobies
February 13, 1943 – February 22, 2025
Mrs. Sandra "Sandi" Dobies (née Chazin) passed away peacefully at home after a bravely fought battle with leukemia on February 22, 2025, in Potomac, Maryland, at the age of 82.
Born on February 13, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Sandi pursued a passion for communication and education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin and later obtained a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Maryland. Sandi's career was dedicated to helping children find their voices—first as a speech-language pathologist for Montgomery County Public Schools and later through her work with Childfind, where she served preschool children with special needs.
Sandi was the beloved wife of Lou Dobies, the devoted mother of Amy Dutko (Paul) and the cherished stepmother of Jennifer Arquette (Chris). She was the treasured bubbie of Ben and Katie Dutko and Griffin and Eden Arquette. Sandi was predeceased by her adored son, Allan Goldberg.
Beyond her professional contributions, Sandi was involved in charitable work, particularly with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Oasis. She found joy in reading, playing Mahjong, laughing with friends, and spending time with her family, particularly during their annual beach vacations together. Known for her acerbic wit and sharp sense of humor, Sandi was also an attentive listener and a trusted companion to her wide circle of friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on March 9, 2025, 1 pm, at Temple Beth Ami, located at 14330 Travilah Road in Rockville, MD. A reception will follow at Sandi and Lou's home immediately following the service.
Sandi's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, bringing comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to share in her life. In lieu of flowers any donations may be made in Sandi's honor to The Okizu Foundation , 83 Hamilton Drive #200, Novato, CA, 94949. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
