SHARON L. MAYHEW (Procuniar)
Died March 4, 2015 from a rare type of sarcoma.
Sharon was a lifetime resident of the DC metro area. Born in Washington DC on February 23, 1952, she was a daughter of William C. And Ruth R. Procuniar. She graduated from Wheaton High School, and received her Bachelor's in Anthropology and Master's in Urban Planning from the University of Maryland. Sharon began her career at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). After HUD, Sharon pursued a career in commercial real estate, before returning to school. She graduated from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) David A. Clarke School of Law in 1991. After receiving her JD from UDC, Sharon pursued an advanced legal degree, receiving her LLM from American University Washington College of Law. After a brief time in private practice, Sharon was named General Counsel for the DC Office of Personnel in the administration of Mayor Anthony Williams. After three years of service, Sharon returned to the Federal Government, first at OPM and finally at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Sharon is survived by Lee Mayhew, her husband, best friend and mate (41 years together). She is further survived by her devoted older sister, Pamela Goldberg (Ira) of Silver Spring, MD; her nieces, Sarah Goldberg (Doug Lepro) of Wheaton, MD and Rachel Goldberg (Paul Glenn) also of Wheaton; her nephew, David Procuniar of New York City, and by her cherished grandnephew, William Goldberg, grandnieces, Fiona Goldberg, Cordelia Goldberg and Sadie Slocum and her stepdaughter, Patty Davis (Jim).
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother, Steven "Bucky" Procuniar.
Service and interment at Judean Memorial Gardens on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive guests/visitors at her late residence following the service.
