On Monday, September 9, 2024, Shelby Herman of Potomac, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Devoted wife of the late Arthur Herman; beloved mother of Dorothy (Sean Brandt) Herman; loving grandmother of Sophia Brandt, and cherished sister of Michael (Louise) Widland and the late Carl Widland.

Shelby grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, and attended the University of Massachusetts. She moved to Maryland for her career at the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis, where she worked on the Gross Domestic Product until her retirement. She filled her retirement, spending time with friends and family.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Rd, Rockville, MD 20850, with burial to follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park in Clarksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shelby's memory may be made to Temple Beth Ami ( bethami.org/donate ) and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Economics Department ( umass.edu/economics/gift ). Shiva will be held at the home of Dorothy and Sean on Thursday from 4:30 - 8pm with Minyan at 7pm.
