Shelley Lynn Holt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted philanthropist, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 72. A resident of both Washington, DC and Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Shelley lived a life marked by generosity, compassion, and a deep commitment to uplifting others.
Shelley is survived by her devoted husband of more than 50 years, Allan Holt; her loving sons David Holt (Lauren Brunetto) and Ryan Holt; and her cherished granddaughter Sophia. She also leaves behind siblings, many nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends. Her family and friends were the center of her life, and she nurtured each relationship with warmth, steadiness, and unwavering love.
A passionate philanthropist, Shelley dedicated much of her life to supporting organizations focused on children, education, healthcare, and sustainable agriculture. Her impact was felt across several institutions whose missions aligned with her values. She served as a board member of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, contributing to programs that strengthened patient care and advanced medical innovation. Shelley was a former trustee of the Barker Adoption Foundation, supporting work that has shaped the futures of countless children and families. She also served on the board of the Defiant Requiem Foundation, which helped preserve vital stories of resilience through history and music during the Holocaust. Shelley was actively involved in the redevelopment of the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club.
Shelley will be remembered for her kindness, insight, generosity, and the profound difference she made in the lives of others. Her legacy lives on in her family, in the organizations she championed, and in the countless individuals touched by her compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in her memory.
