SHIRLEY A. SOBEL January 1, 1920 ~ June 25, 2015 "Everyone just called her Mom" For over three decades at The Clock Shop of Vienna, VA, some forty thousand customers just called her "Mom.' It was the name she answered to, it was on her business card, it was over her parking space and it was the way she treated people. Mom would often spend an hour or more with a single customer gently explaining why they shouldn't exactly match their new clock to their existing furniture. No one else, before or after, had as much patience to explain every nuance of a clock and its operation as Mom. The clock Shop was not Mom's first venue dealing with the public. Mom, her husband Gene and brother-in-law Harold Sobel ran a well know jewelry supply and houseware distributorship call Sobel Brothers from 1937 to 1971. She loved people and it showed. She loved the businesses and treated them as if she were the CEO. Mom worked harder for the family than we did for ourselves, often refusing to go home until every "T" was crossed and every detail for tomorrow was perfectly prepared, sometimes quite a while after everyone else was ready to call it a day. Mom just had her 75th anniversary with Dad who himself had just celebrated his 101st birthday. We will never be able to fill the void she left behind but we have wonderful, indelible memories to share forever. Her loving family husband, Eugene; children, Judy and Donny (Gail); grandchildren, Randy (Ginny), Seth (Beverly) and Aaron (Katherine); and great-grandchildren Alex and Nora. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care, 1170 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852.
