IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sidelle
Wertheimer
April 22, 1929 – May 31, 2024
Sidelle Wertheimer of Chevy Chase, Maryland passed away on May 31, 2024 at the age of 95, following a long illness. Sidelle was a strong, independent, smart, kind and humorous woman who friends called "a force of nature." A proud child of New York City, she was born in the Bronx to immigrant parents, was introduced to Manhattan while attending Hunter High School, traveled South to matriculate at Brooklyn College and returned to Manhattan to obtain her master's degree in mathematics from Columbia University. She was no slouch. After marrying Franc, her college sweetheart, she moved to New Jersey to raise her two children and serve as a mathematics professor at Kean University. She later followed Franc to D.C. when he moved his firm there and held various management positions with federal government agencies. Sidelle had a passionate curiosity about the world and maintained a life-long devotion to expanding her knowledge of it. She was an enthusiastic traveler and was fascinated by the arts, particularly Asian painting and decorative works which she studied and taught for many years as a docent at the National Museum of Asian Art. Sidelle strongly identified with Jewish culture and philosophy and supported various Jewish charities and causes. After Franc's death in 2002, Sidelle continued traveling and pursuing her artistic interests as well as spending time mentoring underprivileged children and organizing several book and bridge clubs, which brought her great joy.
Sidelle will be deeply missed by her children, Laura and David, their spouses Andy and Alice, and her grandchildren Joshua and Katharine and their spouses Elizabeth and Alison.
A memorial service will be held at Washington Hebrew Congregation at Noon on June 2.
