On Sunday, July 1, 2012, Silvia Fields passed away after a valiant fight against breast cancer. She was born May 17, 1936 in Santiago de Cuba to Perfecto Peña-Lopez and Caridad Diaz-Campos, the eldest of four children. Silvia immigrated to Philadelphia at the age of 15, graduated from John Bartram High School, and studied chemistry at Temple University. She worked in a variety of fields during her lifetime including various positions in hospital administration, publishing, pharmaceuticals, and specialized childcare. It is impossible to capture the spirit, humor, charm, and vitality of Silvia in these brief sentences but perhaps her high school yearbook photo caption will do: "Silvia hails from Cuba and oh what a hailstorm she is!"Silvia is survived by her daughters, Lisa, Jennifer and Adrienne O'Brien; her grandchildren, August and Carl Baldy; and her brothers, Omar, Jorge, and Roberto Peña-Diaz. She was laid to rest at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Silvia's memory may be made either to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation online at www.tnbcfoundation.org/donate or to the Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) Hospice, www.jssa.org/donatenow, 200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville, MD 20850. www.sagelfuneraldirection.com
