Obituary

May 2, 1928 - October 22, 2013Sue Goldman Zellan, 85, a retired medical transcriber who lived in the Washington D.C. area for more than 40 years, died at her home in Hockessin, DE on October 22 of natural causes. Beloved wife of Gilbert I. Zellan, she is survived by two daughters, Darcy Cohen and Karen Coates of Maryland; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and many friends.True to the meaning of her Hebrew name, which means "Master of Life," our mother lived her life fully, and she gave life her all. She was young at heart. To her age was just a number. "You are as young as you feel," she always said. She was born in NY, and the youngest of three sisters - Muriel, Jean, and Sue. People liked our mother. Often, through the years, her friends would tell us about our wonderful mother. Her welcoming demeanor made people comfortable to chat or to confide in her. Mom was genuinely interested in someone's well being and always asked people how they were doing. She also loved birds and animals. She would take us bird watching and to the Chesapeake Bay to look for sharks teeth along the water's edge. She inspired Karen with a love of nature. Her love of crafts ignited the spark of artistic creativity and design in Darcy. During her 38 years of marriage to the late Gilbert Zellan, she had a wonderful life. She and Gil worked together in a medical transcribing service, opened several businesses, and traveled extensively. They retired to Myrtle Beach SC, but only for 8 years. Then came the call to be closer to family, and they settled in Hockessin DE. Mom cherished her family and friends. In her later years, she hugged longer, held you closer, and there was a tear in her eye when it came time to say, "Goodbye." She expressed her words and feelings with a new found sweetness that came from her loving heart. This poem was one of her favorites from her father. Count your garden by the flowers Never by the leaves that fallCount your days by golden hours Don't remember clouds at allCount your nights by stars not shadowsCount your life by smiles, not tearsAnd with joy on every birthdayCount your age by those who love you And not by the years that passed. Mom, you are greatly missed. We are so grateful that you were there for us and always loved us unconditionally. With love, your daughters Karen and DarcyFor donations in our mother's memory, please consider supporting the National Audubon Society or if (!aa) var aa = { iframes : new Array(), random : function() { return Math.round(Math.random() * 10000000000); }, pageNum : Math.round(Math.random() * 10000000000), refresh : function(iframeId) { if (typeof(iframeId) != 'undefined') { var iframe = document.getElementById(iframeId); if (iframe) iframe.src = iframe.src.replace(/misc=[0-9]+/, 'misc=' + this.random()); } else { for (var i in this.iframes) this.refresh(this.iframes[i]); } } }; //no AJAX refresh for inline ads aa.adServer = 'http://media2.legacy.com/'; aa.target = '' + '/3.0' + '/5354.1' + '/2172043' + '/0' + '/-1/size=30x1' + '/adtech;' + 'alias=fh.dignitymemorial-10909.lifestory.30x1.1.1;' + 'target=_blank;' + 'key=' + escape('STJ') + ';' + 'kvopenextapp=' + escape('1') +';' + 'kvcobrand=' + escape('DignityMemorial-10909') +';' + 'kvpersonid=' + escape('167697481') +';' + 'sub1=' + escape('St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital') + ';' + 'sub2=' + escape('https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=13522&pID=18290&frequency_selected=2&memoryFirstName=Sue&memoryLastName=Zellan&sc_cid=ptn1') + ';' ; aa.src = aa.adServer + 'addyn' + aa.target + 'grp=' + aa.pageNum +';misc=' + aa.random(); document.write(" document.write("ipt src='" + aa.src + "'>"); document.write(" document.write("ipt>"); .
