Obituary

Thelma Sally Barmack was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on June 17th, 1920. She passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2018. A Consummate mother and homemaker. She always enjoyed spending loving time with her children and grandchildren. Thelma was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Over the years as a member of Samla temple 51 she was a photographer at events for Almas Temple, which is Shriners International. She also was a Past Queen of the Samla Temple 51. She was dedicated to the cause of helping the children thru Shriner's Children hospitals. Thelma was a concert pianist and loved to sing and play the violin. She also loved watching the Redskins game and her favorite show Judge Judy. Crossword puzzles were among her passions, along with reading the newspaper every morning. Thelma was a member of B'nai Israel Congregation. The family was a major contributor on the building of the temple. She attended High Holiday services and her favorite part was the question and answer sessions and watching the children listen to the Shofar being blown. Thelma was predeceased by her loving husband, Samuel Barmack on January 27th, 1992. Thelma is survived by her son Jay Barmack and wife Holly, daughter Michelle Smith and husband Tim. She's also survived by four grandchildren, Jessica Goldie Serano Barmack, Kyle Smith, Wesley Smith and Joshua Smith. She also is survived by four Great-Grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Bradley Smith, Simone Serano and Lidia Serano. Her head caretaker, Nan Nop Corrigan has been by her side for the last nine months, which Thelma called her, "her Angel". We need to give Nan special thanks for the compassionate care that she gave our mother Thelma, for the last nine months of her life. Also, we give special thanks to the Warman Agency for providing us with the two other care takers, Yaa and Lovelace, who were compassionate, caring and very dependable. The family will have funeral services Monday, August 20th at 10:30 AM at B'nai Israel congregation, 6301 Montrose Road, Rockville Maryland, 20852. Any donations in her name should be made to the "Almas Transportation Fund" and mailed to the Almas Temple at 1315 K St NW, Washington, D.C. 20005. This fund helps transport children to the Shriners hospital at Temple University. There will be a family gathering of food and friends to celebrate Thelma's life starting at 4:00 PM on Monday at the Smith's residence.
