On Friday, September 18, 2026, Wilma Estrin Bernstein, of Washington, DC passed away. Beloved wife of Stuart A. Bernstein; devoted mother of Baruch (Ronit), Adam, and Alison (John); mother in law of Tracy; loving sister of Mickey Lemer and the late Melvyn J. Estrin; cherished grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 18.
Wilma was known for her sharp intellect and quick wit. She had an unending commitment and love for every member of her family and all of her friends. During her life, she was deeply involved in the arts and other important institutions, including having served on the board of the Kennedy Center and the board of the Washington Opera.
She also chaired many events centered on Jewish causes, including Israel Bonds and the 125th anniversary of Adas Israel Congregation.
Wilma was an inspiration to all those who knew her, as demonstrated through her courage and grit in confronting Parkinson’s disease. She will be forever missed.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, 12 p.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb St NW, Washington, DC 20016, with burial to follow at King David Memorial Gardens, Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fund a Fellow for Parkinson’s program at Georgetown University Medical Center. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
