Winifred Charm Meiselman
June 4, 1934 to December 18, 2021
Winifred C. Meiselman, loving wife of David I. Meiselman and mother of Ellen Meiselman (Ramon Satyendra) of Ann Arbor, MI, Nina Schoch (William) of Ray Brook, NY, and Samuel A. Meiselman (Amy) of Baltimore, MD, sadly passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the age of 87.
Born in Brighton, MA, and trained as a social worker and teacher, "Win" finished her Bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota after she had her three children, then received a Master's in Art Therapy from George Washington University in her mid-60s. She greatly enjoyed gardening and sharing meals with friends and family.
Win never did anything small – when she was concerned about how the media was covering events in the Middle East, she founded a global organization - CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, www.camera.org). When her Civil War era house, Merrybrook (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrybrook), was at risk of being bulldozed & developed, Win worked to list it in the National Register of Historic Places, and it will soon be transferred to the Fairfax County Park Authority to be preserved for all to learn about Laura Ratcliffe's (Merrybrook's original owner) role in the war.
Win cared deeply both about her family and the state of the world – even during her last hours, Win's final act was to write a letter to the world in which she hoped that all religions and countries would work together in peace.
She was a wonderful "Nana" to 10 grandchildren, including Sara (Yaacov) of Baltimore, MD; Chaim (Ester) of Philadelphia, PA; Gitty (Aryeh) and Eli (Shayna) of Baltimore, MD; Yaakov (Ahuva) of Lakewood, NJ; Tzvi, Baruch, Chanie, and Peri of Baltimore, MD; and Jorge of Ray Brook, NY; as well as 7 great-grandchildren, including Chaimyitzy, Batsheva, Aviva, Eli, Dovi, Gila, and Daniel Dov, all of Baltimore, MD. "Aunt Winnie" also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Liz Charm (Richard), Susan Schwartz (Kurt), Anne Abel (Andrew), Peter Shapiro, Mardi Margowski, Judy Pluznick, Barbara Rosenstein, and many, many relatives and friends who greatly enjoyed sharing visits with her. Win was predeceased by her devoted husband of almost 50 years, David I. Meiselman, as well as her brother Dr. Stanley Charm and his wife Shirley, and her parents, Louis and May Charm.
Services were privately held at the Judean Memorial Garden. A celebration of Win's life will be held on her birthday, June 4, 2022, at Merrybrook, in Herndon, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Win's memory to CAMERA, www.camera.org, Magen David Adom in Israel, www.mdais.org, or the Adirondack Loon Legacy Fund, www.adirondackfoundation.org/funds/adirondack-loon-legacy-fund.
