Obituary

Zalman Israel Polott, Ph.D., 87, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Zalman was born in Riga, Latvia to Sholom-Shachnum and Chaya Yosephovna Polotskoy on September 16, 1934.  A holocaust survivor, he lived in Moscow, USSR until he immigrated to the United States in 1977 with his wife, Lena and his two sons. In the US, he had a successful careers in mechanical engineering and in financial planning.  He never quite retired but enjoyed traveling, was a strong supporter of Israel and spent a lot of time over the past 20+ years "working" at his favorite job – Grandpa (a/k/a the Fixer/Handyman, Chauffeur, and No. 1 Baseball Fan to Sammy and Daniel).

Zalman is survived by his beloved wife of 59 happy years, Lena Abra Polott; he was a devoted father of Leon and Arthur (Anita) Polott; and loving and cherished grandfather of Samuel (Sammy), Daniel, Elizabeth (Libby) and Gabrielle (Abby).

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 12:30pm at Congregation Beth El of Montgomery County, 8215 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD. Interment will be held immediately following the service at Judean Memorial Gardens, 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, MD 20832. The family will be observing Shiva at Arthur and Anita's home in Rockville, MD on Thursday, November 11, Saturday, November 13, and Sunday, November 14 at 7:30 PM.
