On July 12, 2021, Burton ("Bud") Polsky passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband of Maxine Polsky for 69 years; devoted father of Ellen, James, and Robert (Jennifer); loving grandfather of Jessica (Kenneth), Jaclyn, and Ryan, and great-grandfather of Anna and Russell. He is also survived by the children of his late sister Shirley Grant: Richard Grant (Lori) and Linda Perlman (Gary). His nephew Michael Grant predeceased him.
Born in Lincoln, NE on June 11, 1926, to Benjamin and Blanche Polsky, Bud joined the U.S. Army after high school, where he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during WWII. After the war, at the age of 19, he became the youngest Sergeant Major in the Army. Bud graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1950, with a degree in Business Administration, and in 1952, married Maxine, the love of his life. After moving to Washington, DC, Bud and his business partner founded Dalmo, the second discount appliance store in the country, receiving a Certificate of Distinction Award for the Appliance Store Category. Later, he co-owned Evans Distributors & Jewelers, and then retired in 1983.
Along with his business acumen, Bud was a dedicated family man, with a passion for cars, who loved jazz and big band music, taking road trips with his family, and doing jigsaw puzzles. He also served on the board of several Jewish organizations and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Bud was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
Graveside services for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at the Washington Hebrew Congregation Memorial Park, 1380 Alabama Ave, SE, Washington, DC. The family will be receiving family and friends at the Polsky home on Wednesday after the funeral, on Thursday, July 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday, July 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be a Shiva Minyan service on Wednesday and Thursday, July 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m.
