Carolyn June Kaplan, nee Wasserman, on December 15, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Warren Kaplan; previously married to Bernard Stopak, M.D. Loving mother of Aaron (Elaine) Stopak, Kimberly Stopak (Daniel Peshkin) and step-children Jonathan Kaplan (Sarah Malarkey) and Gabriel (Emily) Kaplan. Cherished sister of Lisa Gill. Aunt of George (Dr. Meredith Dawson Gill) Gill and Danny Gill. Adored grandmother of Arielle Stopak, Avery Peshkin, Toby Kaplan, Jacob Kaplan, Samara Kaplan, and Micah Kaplan. Beloved daughter of George and Janice Wasserman, and granddaughter of Sy and Selma Freedman.
Carolyn was a former Investigator and Mediator for the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs, helping resolve disputes between consumers and corporations. Carolyn was the President of the George Wasserman Family Foundation, 26-year Trustee of the National Symphony Orchestra, 11-year member and Council Chair of Theatre J, Chairman's Circle member of the Wilson Center, board member of the Boys and Girls Club, Steering Committee member of the Weizman Institute of Science DC, and President of the PTA at the Radnor School. Carolyn grew up in Washington DC and loved her family, friends, and city.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2018 10:30 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington, DC 20016 with interment to follow at King David Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA. The family of Carolyn Kaplan will be sitting Shiva Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the home of Carol & Henry Goldberg, 5630 Wisconsin Avenue, Apt 1702 with a minyan service at 7:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Theatre J, National Symphony Orchestra, and Martha's Table. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.
