Doris R. Aaronson
Doris R. Aaronson passed away on February 2, 2022 at the age of 83. Born and raised in Washington, DC, she had resided in West Milford, New Jersey since 1981. She will be greatly missed by her brother, David Aaronson (Laura) and sister, Jean Rosenfeld (George); her nieces Stephanie Kurek (Itzhak) and their daughter, Lillie Kurek; Sunny Lerner (Akiba) and their children, Ellie and Jeremiah; and Dara Schreiber (Bill); and Jared Prushansky and his children Jory, Astin and Aylin. She is predeceased by her parents, Edward and May Aaronson. She had a long career as a professor of Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience at New York University and was a trailblazer for women in academia. Along with teaching, and mentoring graduate students, she loved doing research, publishing many articles and books. She was a past president of the Eastern Psychological Association. Doris embraced her life in West Milford, swimming and boating on Pinecliff Lake and hiking in the forests. As an ardent environmentalist, she was an environmental trustee of the lake, a member of the W. Milford Environmental Commission and the Passaic County River Coalition. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Township Library; the environmental section is named for her. She was very active in the Town Council and the Democratic Club. With her friends she enjoyed participating in activities for children, including the yearly snowman contest. Doris was a long supporter of Hope's Door that provides an array of services for domestic violence survivors. A memorial donation may be made in her name at https://55140.thankyou4caring.org/.
