Dr. Scheldon Kress of Potomac, Maryland passed away on April 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family, at the wonderful age of 91. Beloved husband of Rose Kress, he and his sweet Rosie were happily married for 67 years. He was a loving father to Michael Kress (Mimi), Karen Hammerman (Ira), Julie Schumacher (Marc); a fantastic grandfather, known as the Great Scheldini, to Max, Sam (Dara), Adam (Lexi), Justin, Jenna, Jason, and Brandon; and great-grandfather to Simon. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence.
Dr. Kress was a longtime and incredibly caring internist, practicing medicine in Springfield, Virginia for over 30 years, and he then joined the FDA as a Medical Review Officer working until the age of 87. He was a researcher at heart, and his inquisitive mind led to his early work on the development of the measles vaccine, studies on new medications, and in 2018 he authored the book, Power Over POTS. The “Gray Haired Kid” will be remembered as the last one off the ski slopes, for shooting the moon in Hearts, and enthusiastically sharing a new magic trick. His happy place was in his backyard, swimming in the pool. His love and care for his patients was exceeded only by the love and care he gave to his family and close friends. We will miss him with all our hearts. Graveside services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, Clarksburg, MD. Shiva will be held at the home of Michael & Mimi Kress at 6 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022 with service at 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to NAMI-Montgomery County (namimc.org), JSSA Hospice (jssa.org), or a charity of your choosing.
