On June 2, 2023. Freda Herschel Epstein of Boca Raton, FL. Born in Washington, DC on January 5,1923 to Bertha and Charles Herschel, Freda Herschel spent her childhood in Columbia Heights and attended Roosevelt High School in Washington, DC. In 1940 she married Harry A. Epstein in what would go on to become, in her words, “a 62 and a half-year love affair” that continued until Harry’s death in 2003. Together, they welcomed daughter, Zoe, and three years later, a son, Michael David.
Her beloved brother, Louis Herschel, passed away in 1959. An elegant, well-composed character, she remained actively engaged and adventurous throughout her illustrious 100+ year life. However, it was her role as mother to Zoè and Michael (Diana Ely); grandmother to Tracy (OBM), Robert (Amy), Lauren (Brad), Chris (Jordan), Samantha (Jonathan) and her nine great-grandchildren that she relished most.
Her signature toast at every gathering, “Same time, same place, same people...next year” exemplified her optimism and became a well-known aspiration for every gathering of family and friends.
