George (Gershon) Feirstein, born on November 27, 1925 in New Jersey, passed away peacefully in Palm Beach, FL, on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the age of 94. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Feirstein, the devoted companion of the late Phyliss Glassman, father of Andrea Feirstein (Frank Schiff) and Bruce Feirstein (Madeline Warren) and the loving grandfather of Samantha and Corey Schiff, and Thomas and Elizabeth Feirstein. He was the son of Anna and Morris Feirstein of Newark (both deceased) and brother of the late Bernard Farrell. He is also survived by his loving sister, Rosalind Davidson, of Atlanta, GA, and an extended family of adoring nieces, a nephew, and cousins, along with their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Feirstein was a decorated WWII veteran who served as an Army Ranger with the 100th Division in Europe, earning a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf, and a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in Germany.
After graduating with a degree in business from Rutgers University in Newark, he began his long and distinguished career in the textile industry at Cohen Hall Marx in Manhattan, eventually working for Mannes Textiles, and opening the American offices of YKK Zippers, where he was a Vice President.
Raising his family in Maplewood, New Jersey, Mr. Feirstein served on the local school board, and was an active and beloved member of Congregation Beth El, in South Orange.
Retiring in in 1992, he moved to Boynton Beach Florida, where he pursued his first love, which was teaching. For more than 20 years, he conducted highly attended classes and seminars in Politics, Current Affairs, Motion Picture history and the history of the American Musical theater at the Mandel Jewish Community Center of the Palm Beaches.
He was a mentor to all, with a quick wit, a patriotic compassion for America, and a sympathetic ear for anyone in need.
Services will be held privately in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his honor to the Mandel Jewish Community Center of the Palm Beaches.
