Herbert Samuel Blum passed peacefully in his sleep on January 21, 2022 at his home in Bethesda. He was 89, loving husband of Elaine Blum. In the 1950's he started a furniture store in Washington, DC with his father Max Blum and brother Daniel Blum. Capitol Furniture eventually moved to Maryland and was successfully in business for 32 years. His sons, David and Jeffrey, along with his nephews all worked together in the family business. He worked very hard and loved his career. He was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 55 and enjoy his leisure retirement. He enjoyed walks around the neighborhood, traveling and playing tennis. Herb was well known for his love for the beach and enjoyed 43 years at the Quay in Ocean City. He made many friends over the years and loved talking to everyone about business and their families. Herbert was born in Brooklyn, NY. His late parents Max and Fay Blum moved to Washington, DC in 1938. He met his wife Elaine in 1958, and they just celebrated their 63rd anniversary. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine; his children Alisa Blum, Marc Staimer, David and Sara Blum, Karen Lawlor and Jeffrey Blum. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Erica and Luis Apaestgui, Ryan Blum, Julia Staimer, Jonathan Blum, Gina Staimer, Casey Lawlor, Marjorie Blum, Adam Blum and Shea Lawlor. Funeral will be held at the Chapel at Judean Gardens at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
