Joy passed peacefully in the early hours of Monday October 18, 2021, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born on April 5, 1961. She was the daughter of Lynda Levin Behnke and the late Sidney Apple. Joy is survived by her husband Ronald Singer, daughter Brooke Miller (Christopher) Olsen, mother Lynda (Kenneth) Behnke, sister Monica Haley, aunts Robin Levin and Barbara English, nephews Joshua (Amanda) and Joseph Rodman, former spouse Mark Miller, grand-nephews Zohar and Lior Rodman. She is preceded in death by grandparents Gertrude and Jack Levin.
Joy grew up in Annapolis, Maryland. From a young age, she had an incomparable work ethic, earning her first job dipping ice cream cones downtown and later working at Dockside Restaurant throughout college. She graduated with a degree in accounting from University of Maryland in 1983 and worked for over 30 years as an actuarial consultant at Gorrelick, Tievy & Associates and later at various other firms. Throughout her adult life, she resided in Rockville and Bethesda until moving with her husband Ron to Ocean City, MD, where they had a beautiful ocean view.
Anyone who knew Joy knows she was the life of the party, smart as a whip, loyal, confident, and hilarious. Even in her final moments, Joy was strong, determined, and in control. Only three weeks before her passing, she walked her daughter Brooke down the aisle at her wedding. Her larger-than-life personality will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21 at noon at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 1125 Spa Road, Annapolis, MD. Interment to follow at Kneseth’s Israel Cemetery on Defense Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of your choice, as Joy was an animal lover.
**The family will be receiving and observing Shiva on Thursday, 10/21 from 4-8pm and Friday, 10/22 from 3-7pm at the home of Lynda and Kenneth Behnke in Annapolis.
