Lucie Brami Obituary

Lucie Lea Brami, 89, of Rockville, MD, passed away April 4th, 2020.  She was born to parents Arthur and Jenny (Levi) Nunez, September 12th, 1930 in Tunis, Tunisia.  She married Georges Aime Brami in 1952, and they lived in Tunis before immigrating to the United States.  Lucie is survived by three children: Jean-Luc Brami of Gaithersburg, MD; Neil Arthur Brami, of Rockville, MD; and Guy Glen Brami, of Rockville, MD.  She is also survived by 6 grandchildren Jamie, Josh, Lauren, Adam, Aidan, Sam.  Sister Ines Berribi of Paris, France.

Lucie was predeceased by her loving husband in 1999 and her first born son Guy in 1966.  Lucie and Georges came to the U.S. in 1959 and 8 years later proudly became U.S Citizens.
Those who knew Lucie well understood her amazing inner strength and will to live each day with gratitude.  In 1966 Lucie suffered the loss of her first born son to Leukemia.  Lucie and Georges always held family in high regard and it was especially appreciated and needed during this time of her life.

Family was Lucie's passion in life.  A devoted wife and mother of 4. She loved to talk about her life growing up in Tunisia, her parents, her kids and her husband.  Lucie was born an Italian Citizen and spoke Italian fluently.   She learned to speak French, her second of three languages in grammar school.  Later upon marriage to Georges she became a French Citizen.
Lucie loved to cook for her family.   One of her favorite things to do was plan a dinner party with family and close friends.  Many of these dinners were with her extended family in particular the Mugmon family (brother and sister-in-law) who were always there for her and Georges.  Having been raised in a Jewish-Italian Family and becoming a French Citizen in a North African Country; Lucie brought an array of culinary influences to the dinner table.  Her recipes often times were a mixture of Mediterranean, French, Italian and American (Fusion cooking before it became the trend).  Her dishes were carefully prepared and beautifully presented.

Lucie began working part-time for the Hecht Co. in 1975 while her kids were finishing school. She continued working until 1995 when she retired to take care of Georges who was suffering from Alzheimer.  Her devotion to her husband’s care was inspiring to everyone.  After Georges passed Lucie went back to work part-time in the family business and was a fixture in the office greeting employees and customers.  Lucie loved to come to the office to be with her three sons.  Lucie kept in touch with her family overseas, steadfastly writing letters and calling.  She kept in especially close contact with her older sister Ines.  Lucie took several trips to France to see her sister, nieces and nephews.  Lucie didn’t have many hobbies but she was always reading a book and doing a crossword puzzle.  In the last few years of her life she was stricken with Aphasia which robbed her of the ability to communicate verbally.  However she never lost the ability to communicate her love for her family.  Lucie lived a full life experiencing the gravest of loss and the greatest of Joys...and as she would say “Et Voila!”
