Mark Nash Obituary

Mark Nash was a man who knew what he wanted out of life. This last chapter of his life, too, was what he wanted…. gentle, pain-free, receiving visits from dearest friends and family, and surrounded with love by his wife and two sons when he took his last breath on Friday, July 22, 2022.

Mark was born to parents Yetta and Irving Nash and raised in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School and earned a finance degree from the University of Maryland. In 1976 Mark founded Builders Design which continues as one of the larger design firms in the country now led by his son Jon Nash and longtime team member Joe Duffus.

A visionary, Mark created a unique business model filling a much-needed niche in the marketplace. He was hands-on every step of the way. His entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, his sense of beauty and design, and his mega-watt smile guaranteed success.

Mark loved to be surrounded by family and friends be it on a golf course here or somewhere in the world, a football stadium, or watching sports on TV. He most enjoyed going to restaurants with people he cared about and having multi-course meals to extend time together and experience new and exciting foods. Spending time with Mark meant eating well in fun and interesting atmospheres.

Generous in spirit and deed, family and friends knew that when times got tough, Mark showed up. He never knew a problem that he wouldn’t try to solve. His caring nature extended beyond his family to his lifelong friends, his Builders Design family, and the people he met every day. He will be remembered for loyalty and empathy beyond measure.

Mark loved to travel and in recent years he and his wife Donna visited over sixty locations in the States and throughout the world. Mark also wanted his grandchildren to share his love of travel. He and Donna took each of them on trips to special places in the world. Mark was insistent that they take a recent trip to Italy with two of his grandchildren despite his failing health.

Mark married Donna Tish in 2013 after meeting in 2009. She lit up his eyes and brought a smile to his face. Their love story was an inspiration to friends and family alike.

Mark is survived by his first wife Susan Nash and their two sons Michael (Kristine) Nash and their children Ella Rey and Cole; Jon (Jennifer) Nash and their children Gavin, Graham, and Charlotte; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral service for Mark Nash will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, 11:30am at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington, D.C. with interment to follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park in Clarksburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that charitable contributions be made in Mark’s honor to the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing and/or the Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA).
