Oscar Dodek Obituary
On Thursday, March 2, 2017. Beloved husband of Joan (Blieden) Dodek for 61 years, devoted father of Oscar (Allison Bohager) Dodek III, Lauren (Ralph) Freedman and Alvin (Linda Schwartz) Dodek; loving brother of Trenice Goldstein and Samuel Dodek, Jr. Also survived by grandchildren Elyssa, Emily, Josh, Leah, and Emma. Oscar was the devoted son of Oscar Dodek, Sr. and Mildred Schlosberg Dodek. Oscar was a lifetime resident of the Washington, D.C. area. He served as a Captain in the United States Army from 1961-1963. Oscar graduated from the University of Michigan (1956), George Washington Medical School (1956) and George Washington Law School (1985). He was a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University Medical School for 35 years and Professor Emeritus since 1998. He was the first Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist in the Washington, D.C. area and established the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology at George Washington University Hospital in 1978. He authored a variety of scientific and scholarly publications. Oscar and his wife Joan have been passionate advocates for a variety of Human Rights and Women's Health Issues. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 3:00pm at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington, DC 20016. Following the service, the family will be receiving friends and family at Washington Hebrew Congregation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to N-Street Village, 1333 N Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20005 (www.nstreetvillage.org).
