Ruth Egber Kline, of Chevy Chase MD, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard B Kline, mother of Nelson Kline, Larry Kline and Marjorie Kline. In addition to her children, she is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ruth was a Washington DC native, who attended Calvin Coolidge High School and Marjorie Webster Junior College.
Ruth was an active owner, along with her husband, of Rock Creek Pharmacy, an independent pharmacy, located in Silver Spring, MD, for over forty years. Ruth and her husband Bernie were 50/50 partners, he ran the pharmacy; and she ran the rest of the store. The pharmacy was noted for the quality of the product lines that it carried – cosmetics, china, candy, greeting cards. The store also contained a US Post Office sub-station; and was one of the early Maryland Lottery retail locations.
The pharmacy was truly a family operation, with the whole family working together – especially during the holidays.
After she retired, she spent more time on her two life passions – theater and travel. She was always a theater patron, going to New York often to see shows before they came to DC. She traveled extensively around the world, making new long-time friends. One thing she took great pride in, was dining at the McDonalds in all the countries she visited, including China.
She was a remarkable woman, fixture of the local community, well known and appreciated by all, beloved by her family and loyal friends. She will be missed.
